You can’t shout about your game 24 hours a day. Some of that time you’ll be working on the game itself, sleeping, socialising and quite possibly holding down a day job. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t be passively sharing your game, placing it along side the activities you are doing anyway. Below are 4 places you should be putting a link to you game, so you can continue to spread the word, even when you’re not spreading the word.

Email signature

How many emails do you send a day? How many of them from your personal account? Every one of those emails could be working for you, promoting your game with just a simple addition of a link back to your game in your email signature. If you still have a day job, it’s probably not wise to add your link to your work email, but you should absolutely add it to your personal account. Even if you have a custom domain name for your email (hello@mysuperawesomegame.com) since people rarely take the effort to visit those URLs manually anyway.

Forum signature

Similarly, if you post regularly to forums that allow signatures, add your link. If they allow image signatures, even better.

Links in comments

Firstly, you should be commenting on other sites and blogs. Secondly, when you do, you should make sure that your include a link to your game. Not necessarily in the comment itself, (unless it’s relevant it’s pretty spammy) but in the URL field.

Twitter & Facebook bio, LinkedIn position etc

If you have got a twitter or Facebook page set up for your game / studio, go and do that now. Then make sure you’ve linked to your game in the bio and info sections. Hell, do it on your personal accounts too. In fact, any social network that you are signed up to and allows you to specify a URL should have a link to your site proudly displayed.

That’s that. 4 quick places to share a link to your indie game. Where else do you put your link?

Hey Anthony, glad you found the article useful. I think a lot of these things are common sense, but easy to forget!
